Lisa
Herrington was born and raised in Houston,
Texas. She is a self taught
artist and percussionist who was drawn to creative expression early on. Her
mother plays piano and accordion and her father is a professional steel
guitarist who has played with several well known musicians. At the age of 4,
Lisa began drawing and playing drums. By age 7 she started playing publicly at
her grandfather's church and within 3 years she was traveling the country with
her dad and other musicians playing at churches, music halls, auditoriums and
private events.
Although
heavily involved with music, Lisa had an equal passion for art. She loved
sketching people and faces and had thoughts of becoming a portrait artist.
However, as she matured, she realized that the structure of fine art restricted
her need for self-expression. She preferred to add her own interpretation of
the human form. Later on, her interest in artists such as Van Gogh and Edvard
Munch played an important role in her discovery of a style all her own. She draws
inspiration from her dreams and also her desire to explain an extensive array
of emotion and spiritual understanding.
After
high school, Lisa enrolled herself into the Art Institute of Houston where she
majored in video production. Her minor was in music business and she also took
some art history classes. In 1993 she graduated with honors and received an
Associates Degree in Applied Arts. In 1998 Lisa put charcoal to the side and
began working with oil paints on canvas and wood. She really enjoyed the
challenge of this new medium and the assortment of vibrant colors it brought to
her work.
By
2002, Lisa began exhibiting her work in solo and group shows at such venues as
Gallery 19, Eastman Gallery, Mo
Mong and George R. Brown Convention Center. As she progressed as
an artist, Lisa’s dream of her own studio was realized. She began faux finishing in 2007 as an extension of her artistic work. Lisa treats each faux finishing project as a unique work of art making no project exactly alike. Lisa
is still playing drums and plays in a local band called Soul Fixx. She
co-writes songs with lead singer, Shanti Marsena and they are working on their
first cd.
